Remembering Andrew Rogers: A Blood Bike Volunteer Who Gave Selflessly

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Andrew Rogers, a much-loved volunteer with Blood Bikes Wales.

Andrew lost his life following a road traffic collision in Carmarthenshire. Tragically, the incident has deeply affected the blood bike and wider motorcycling community.

The collision took place on 30 December on the A48 near Llanddarog. It involved a black Audi A3 and a Honda 750 blood bike. Andrew, aged 61, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. However, despite medical treatment, he sadly passed away on New Year’s Day.

According to his family, Andrew was a man devoted to helping others. In addition, he was a committed Christian and a lifelong farmer. He was also immensely proud of his role as a blood bike rider. Importantly, he was volunteering at the time of the collision. As a result, he was doing something that truly mattered to him.

A Selfless Force Within the Motorcycle Community

Blood Bikes Wales is a 100% volunteer-run charity based in Wales. As such, it provides a completely free courier service to the NHS. Volunteers deliver life-saving blood, plasma, and urgent medical supplies. In addition, they transport donated human milk and essential medical documents.

These deliveries often take place overnight. Furthermore, they are carried out out of hours and in all weather conditions. Despite these challenges, volunteers continue to serve without expectation of reward. Andrew was one of those dedicated individuals.

Blood bike riders rarely seek recognition. Nevertheless, their work has a profound impact every single day. As a result, they represent the very best of the motorcycling community. Their skill, responsibility, and compassion save lives.

Meanwhile, Blood Bikes Wales have thanked the public for the overwhelming support received. They have also expressed gratitude for the many kind messages shared during this difficult time.

Police Investigation Continues

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that a 26-year-old man has been arrested. Specifically, the arrest was made on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

At present, enquiries remain ongoing. Therefore, police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. This includes, in particular, anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time.

Our Thoughts Are With Andrew’s Loved Ones

At Sorrymate, our thoughts are firmly with Andrew’s family and friends. Equally, we stand with the entire blood bike and emergency services community.

Sadly, this incident is a stark reminder of the risks motorcyclists face every day. This is especially true for trained and experienced riders who volunteer to save lives. Therefore, awareness and care on the roads remain vital.

Ultimately, Andrew’s dedication will not be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the lives he helped protect and the community he served.

So, if you ride, please stay alert.
Likewise, if you drive, please look twice for motorcycles.
Because, in the end, one moment can change everything.
