This month has seen our support for the Blood Bike groups growing with our director Louise volunteering as a controller with her local group Merseyside & Cheshire Bloodbikes. This sees Louise regularly manning the phones for Bloodbikes, taking calls from NHS hospitals and cancer centres requesting transportation of bloods, samples, breast milk and various medical notes and equipment around the region.
All of the riders and controllers in the group are unpaid volunteers, providing the service completely free to the NHS.
MCBB riders have been working over the Christmas break, and where most of us might be inclined to keep our bikes in the garage throughout the night, or when the weather turns, these riders are regularly called out to deliver life-saving supplies, regularly putting them at risk of harm.
We’ve also stepped up our fundraising support for MCBB. Louise agreed to become their Corporate Fundraising Lead, raising funds from the local business community, starting with Sorrymate who have agreed to sponsor the costs of one of the bikes for 12 months.
The group are always looking for support, be it financial or through volunteering.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see what we’re organising and when. Fundraisers are a great opportunity to meet like minded bikers, and always a good day out.
